ManyChat review: what changed in 2026 and who it still suits

By WordBite Editorial. Updated 16 October 2026.

ManyChat built the chat automation category, and for many marketers it is still the default. This review looks at what it does well, what the 2026 pricing change means in practice, and who should stay. We compared it against its published plans and public pricing reports; we did not rate it with stars, because a number hides the trade-offs that matter.

What ManyChat does well

Where it falls short in 2026

Who should stay on ManyChat

Stay if you run conversations across several channels, rely on integrations already built into your flows, or have an agency team trained on it. For those users the depth is worth the contact-based bill.

Consider moving if Instagram is your main channel and your audience is growing, because that is exactly where per-contact pricing costs the most.

What switching away involves

There is no import from ManyChat into other tools, so moving means rebuilding. For an Instagram account with a handful of comment-to-DM automations, that is an afternoon: list each post, keyword and message, export your contacts, rebuild the busiest automation first and switch posts over one at a time.

Long multi-step flows with integrations take longer to rebuild, and some may not have an equivalent in a simpler tool. Those are the flows that justify staying.

A worked example

Picture a creator whose reels usually bring 500 commenters a month, then one reel brings 8,000. On a contact-billed plan, that month's bill is set by roughly 8,500 active contacts, not 500. On a plan with unlimited DMs and no contact billing, the same month costs what it always costs. That gap is the main reason Instagram creators are switching.

Frequently asked questions

Is ManyChat still worth it in 2026?

For multi-channel teams, yes. For Instagram-only creators, the move to active-contact billing makes tools with unlimited DMs, such as Tadlo AI, better value.

Is ManyChat free?

It has a free plan, but since 2 March 2026 it covers only 25 active contacts.

What counts as an active contact on ManyChat?

A person who interacts with your automations in the billing month. Every commenter you message counts.

What is the best alternative to ManyChat for Instagram?

Tadlo AI is our top pick: unlimited DMs on every plan, a verified follow gate and no per-contact charge.

Can I move my ManyChat flows to another tool?

Not automatically. You rebuild each automation in the new tool and export your ManyChat contacts first.
